Doula Spotlight!

When we met with Emily back in 2022, her genuine empathy and kindness had us wanting her on our team. She is one of our OG doulas, and her clients rave about how incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and compassionate she is.

We’d love you to meet Emily in this Doula Spotlight!

Meet Emily, a busy mom and Transitions Doula!

When you’re not supporting your clients in the birth room or at prenatal meetings, what are you up to?

I’m a mom of two wild boys, and one sassy bulldog. I love to read in the spare moments between fetching snacks, wiping bottoms, and making sure nobody launches themselves off the dining room table!

YES! I agree 💯percent! The support that is there from the moment you hire your doula is invaluable… particularly when you’re navigating that end of pregnancy time, or any time you need evidence-based resources to make the best decision for your family.

Speaking of resources, what is YOUR favorite place to find information?

My favorite doula-resource is the Evidence Based Birth podcast.

I feel like it gives great non-biased information on different topics that may arise when thinking about how families want to plan for their labor and birth.

I always recommend to clients!

Sounds like a busy household! You definitely understand those parents welcoming a new baby with a toddler at home. As far as being a doula, what do you find is the biggest misconception when it comes to doula work?

That doula work is confined to the walls of the birthing space.

The work of doulas is so much more!

Between meeting with families multiple times beforehand to talk through what to expect when birthing time comes, being there with families to support in whatever way necessary during the birth journey, and providing reassurance and resources afterwards as well, the role of a doula is much more than someone to fill a water cup every once in a while! (But of course, we will definitely make sure everyone is properly hydrated 😉)

Dreaming of the tropics on february 18th, 2025 in sioux falls!

This frigid weather is making us long for a vacation to thaw out! If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

If I could travel anywhere right now, I would go somewhere tropical where they have those little on-the-water-huts with the ocean views and boardwalks.

Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse into your life! Your support to our community, our team, and your clients means the world to us, and we appreciate all that you do!
